The recipe app I kept planning and finally have live
What is Nerocopia?
Nerocopia is the recipe app I kept wanting and kept putting on the backburner. Now, I have an app my wife and I can use to keep track of recipes we use regularly. I had a few requirements for a recipe app I'd actually use:
- Importing: I needed to import from other sites without the paragraphs of backstory and pop-ups that infest recipe aggregators.
- Simple recipe interface: I wanted to keep things readable when you're in a recipe so you can keep track of what you're doing.
- Recipe history: I thought it'd be useful to see how you've modified or personalized a recipe over time and even give you opportunities to "fork" a recipe into different versions when you try new cooking methods or flavor profiles.
- Whimsy: As you can probably see on this site, I think solo or side-project apps should be whimsical or fun. Personal design touches and weirdness keeps software a little more human.
Why the name?
As a parent, the best way to name an ongoing project is to ignore all the puns that come to mind (Favor Flaves, Fork This, etc) and go with a random word your toddler invented and liked to use all the time. Now a lovely memory of my son is attached to this project which gives me more motivation to put work into it. It's also pretty much guaranteed it wont be taken...
